Holmes Aviation Services says:

What we have done is move 917 lbs. 9 ¾" forward of its original position. Most beavers flying today at gross weight, are far from legal when it comes to the aft C of G. All the baggage extensions and gross weight increases only made this matter worse. This is due to the design of the original Beaver.

The question is, how do you have any hope of keeping your loads within limits when the empty C of G is already ½ way back, and most seats and baggage areas are well to the rear?

What we have done, is design the empty weight C of G at the forward limit, so that all loading has a chance to stay with-in limits.

Our original flight-testing showed us a number of things:

  1. The time from throttle application to the aircraft on the step appeared to be cut in half
  2. The aircraft climbed faster
  3. An increase in cruise airspeed was apparent
  4. There was no need for "cruise flaps"

And from the maintenance perspective, anyone who has tried to change a mag or starter, or adjust points or find an oil leak will love this modification.

The Holmes Extended Engine Mount is a perfect addition to any DHC-2 equipped with the Sealand Aviation Ltd Cabin Extension Kit and the Sealand Aviation Cabin Kit with the Alaska Door.
